BRAND, DESIGN & BUILD IN 10 WEEKS
Following the award of the Wales and Borders rail franchise to Transport for Wales in 2018, the train operating company desperately needed to design and build a new marketing website with a strong and engaging brand to kick off the launch. With a hard deadline agreed for the franchise handover the project needed to be a quick turn around.
CONCEPTUALISING A MULTILINGUAL BRAND
Transport for Wales came with an existing strong print brand, but it needed to be conceptualised and adapted for the digital world and to accommodate one of the most complex and longwinded written languages in the world, Welsh! Quick rounds of digital concepts were fleshed out in collaboration with the client to get the vision and digital brand signed off as soon as possible so we could design the rest of the site and components in time for the deadline.
Alongside this, the site needed an English and Welsh version so we had to rigorously stress test each component to be able to hold the longer welsh variant.
There were some obscenely long station names, this one was the longest!

THE OUTCOME
Due to our existing in-depth experience of the rail industry, the project steamed ahead (excuse the pun) so we could quickly and effectively implement a strong and inspiring new rail brand and hit the launch date as planned in a matter of 10 weeks from start to finish.
Transport for Wales won silver for 'Best Website' and was a finalist in the 'Transport, Leisure & Tourism' category at the UK Digital Experience Awards 2019.
